Megan O’Neill Quoted in Hollywood Reporter Article Regarding Proposed Weinstein Victim Settlement
Megan O’Neill was recently quoted in Eriq Gardner’s The Hollywood Reporter article “How an Army of Lawyers Messed Up a Deal to Compensate Weinstein Victims.” The article discusses the possible settlement, which had been a work-in-progress for the last two years, to compensate Weinstein’s victims. The settlement was rejected by U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein. A written memorandum explaining the decision is yet to be released.
There has been criticism levied at the proposed settlement, with some victims and their lawyers stating that the settlement is not just. An unusual aspect of the rejected settlement included a plan to assign points to claimants proportional to what they alleged Weinstein did to them. Those points would then be used to provide different payment amounts to the victims.
Megan commented on this topic, “It’s really painful as a woman to hear about the point system…This deal checked all the boxes on the complexity front.”
