Overview
For more than two decades, Jean Mooney has applied the value ingrained in her as a child that “details matter” to her litigation practice.
Her methodical and detailed approach to legal analysis translates into effective, persuasive briefing on diverse legal topics, including data privacy, Article III standing, choice of law, non-disclosure agreements, and RICO. And her ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of her clients’ claims and defenses enables her to resolve disputes efficiently and effectively.
Jean’s practice focuses on class action litigation and complex civil litigation. She regularly defends corporations in consumer class actions across the country and has assisted in defeating class actions involving allegations under California’s Unfair Competition Law, Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, and state warranty laws. With her extensive experience defending claims alleging violations of California’s and other states’ consumer protection laws, Jean is well-versed in the most effective defenses of such actions.
In the last few years, Jean successfully opposed class certification of warranty claims under California and Illinois law and secured dismissal of a subset of class claims for fraudulent omission and violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act on summary judgment. She also assisted in securing dismissal of a RICO claim on standing grounds on behalf of a national retail chain.
While living in Taiwan for two years, Jean honed her Mandarin skills and discovered a love for baking. She spends her free time perfecting her scone recipe and planning the next international adventure with her family.

Experience
On behalf of a major insurance company, obtained dismissal of individual and class claims alleging breach of contract, which was affirmed on appeal.
On behalf of a nutrition company, responded to CLRA letter alleging claims of non-functional slack fill in client’s product which ultimately resulted in a favorable settlement.
On behalf of a social media platform, defended claim alleging violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.
